Use of library tools in a learning management system
Leeder C., Lonn S., Hollar S.  iConference 2012 (Proceedings of the 2012 iConference, Toronto, ON, Canada, Feb 7-10, 2012)595-597.2012.Type:Proceedings

The development of e-learning technologies exploits the use of online resources through hard-coded materials and hyperlinked pathways to external content. One resource that is often underutilized is the on-campus library, along with its associated materials. This study investigates the integration of library resources into a university learning management system titled CTools; this tool offers electronic versions of course materials and related resources.

Log files downloaded from CTools were analyzed to identify two sample populations for the study. These two groups represented users and nonusers; however, it is unclear who the nonusers are and why they are included in the study. Despite this confusion, the results indicate that further utilization of library resources would improve the learning experience for students. The study concludes that library resources should be embedded into e-learning to enhance and support online learning.
