Worm is a CAVE-based visualization package developed at the Electronic Visualization Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Working with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA’s) astrophysics and relativity groups, the authors visualized a variety of phenomena, including the formation of the early universe, fluid flow, and gravitational waves.
This paper is clearly divided into four parts: a short presentation of Worm, the description of the CAVE virtual environment, the applications developed in Worm as a result of the collaboration with NCSA scientists, and the progress of the project. The presentation is related to a paper on the design and implementation of CAVE [1]. More information on the Worm can be obtained from the authors or via Mosaic.
