This excellent paper is a significant initial step in the research of stress and the behavior of information systems personnel. Empirical findings indicate that Type A (behavior pattern) personnel reported significantly higher levels of stress in terms of time pressure/work overload and work relationship patterns than did Type B counterparts. Similar significant differences in findings occur with respect to job-related tensions, tension discharge, and health disorders and severity; no significant differences were found with respect to job satisfaction and organization commitment.
Research of this nature assists the manager in understanding stress factors and associated attitudes and behavior of information system personnel. The paper raises further interesting research questions, such as: Are Type A personnel better performers than their Type B counterparts?
The paper has a good introduction with background references. It also gives comparisons of research results of other employment groups.
