Geomatic: a 3-D graphic relief simulation system
Laurent D., Motet S. Computer17 (12):25-30,1984.Type:Article
Date Reviewed: Jul 1 1985

The Relief Simulation System (RSS) is a menu-driven system running on an Intergraph, VAX 11-780 machine. The RSS is in a state of flux, but the basic approach to the 3D and 2D Digital Terrain Model and Contour Drawing is established. The paper presents a flexible user oriented system, based on matrix oriented terrain models and stacked files for contour drawing. The issues related to shading and viewer positioning are addressed, together with their approach to the hidden line question. There are indications that the contouring algorithms lack smoothing capabilities. The user interface has a menu-driven hierarchical structure.
