Visual lifelogs--large series of photos--are useful as a means of seeing someone’s experiences. In this paper, it is interesting to note the important considerations that the authors make in terms of user accessibility (good design, ease of use, and organized interface), privacy (safe login and delete function), and event organization.
Given the wide adoption of touchscreen devices, the lifelog application could have a strong impact on future users, offering the possibility of viewing relevant images from a large collection of approximately 5,000 images per day. The development of the application follows a novel approach: automatic photo organization by events. The user is always in control, with the ability to browse desired items and drill down to details.
Following relevant design guidelines, the authors try to keep usability problems to a minimum. For example, they allow users to annotate events using a virtual keyboard, and have implemented a timed slideshow functionality.
The work presented has high user-adoption potential, based on the excellent design of the lifelog application and its interaction features.
