The constructive solid geometry (CSG) facilities in AutoCAD’s Advanced Modeling Extension (AME) are introduced in this tutorial. Chapters alternate between discussions of some of the AME commands and chapters with some simple demonstrative exercises (which are also supplied on the accompanying diskette). The book is clearly laid out, with adequate illustrations, making it easy to follow the thread of the discussion.
The work is clearly aimed at the drafter who already has experience of the two- and three-dimensional line and surface facilities of AutoCAD and now wants to use the CSG facilities. Unfortunately, the depth of treatment of the material is not great, be it in the underlying theory of CSG, in customizing and optimizing the AME facilities, or in the practical implications of introducing solid modeling into the design office. The book does have a role as a primer for those moving over to use AME, as a drawing office will find it more cost-effective than sending a drafter to a training course. Having worked through the book, however, the drafter will still need to continue with on-the-job training to make best use of the system.
