The contribution of this paper is a set of practical, tested system development tools called maps. The authors view the contribution as a merging of behavioral and systems development desciplines. This is not realized rigorously, but the maps do present a practical application of both disciplines.
Most of the paper comprises a case study illustrating the different types of maps. These are diagnostic maps, ecological maps, virtual maps, and historical maps. The maps have similarities to many other systems development concepts, including project management, developmental documentation, and feasibility studies. There is not an extensive research contribution here, except that this represents an attempt to present a comprehensive systems development tool. However, the maps, as a whole, may provide a good overview of the design process for practical application.
