Several techniques for synthesizing more complex timbres from a basic set are combined in a variety of ways. They include: adding harmonic, as well as a certain amount of inharmonic, frequencies; gradual transition from timbre to timbre; alternation or mixture of different musical files; and human manipulation in selecting interesting segments of files for further combinations. The final experiment of composition employs more harmonic, rhythmic, and polyphonic files (this experiment won first prize at the 1983 Computer Music Festival in Cambridge, MA)
