Experiments in remote rendering over an intercontinental optical network are discussed in this paper. The experiments took place during the iGrid2002 Conference (http://www.igrid2002.org), held in Amsterdam in 2002.
A four-node rendering cluster in Chicago was used to generate images, which were then displayed in real-time on a four-tile visualization setup in Amsterdam. On average, one gigabit per second was used to enable remote visualization at an interactive frame rate, with a 1600 by 1200 pixel configuration.
The paper is very well organized, and has an appropriate level of detail. It describes a remarkable experimental setup, integrating several kinds of technologies using different areas of knowledge. The paper is particularly recommended to those interested in visualization and grid computing.
