Production and use of information. Characterization of informetric distributions using effort function and density function exponential informetric process
Lafouge T., Prime-Claverie C. Information Processing and Management: an International Journal41 (6):1387-1394,2005.Type:Article
Date Reviewed: Feb 6 2006

The statistical regularities observed in the production or use of information are dealt with in this paper. The authors introduce an effort function to establish a relationship between the information content or entropy within the meaning of Shannon’s theory of information and the average amount of effort, by employing a distribution of effort. This formulation clarifies the well-known characteristics of the link between the power distributions and the maximum entropy principle [1]. The presented approach is independent of the result of Price on the cumulative advantage process [2]. This paper will be useful to researchers in scientometrics.
