This delightful book is exceptionally well illustrated. The author assumes the reader is proficient in the use of a desktop publishing program, but probably has no formal training in the graphic arts. So he sets out to suggest useful designs, illustrations, formats, typefaces, and so forth. The reader is told that he or she may freely copy the designs, the production techniques, and so forth. Where an example incorporates copyrighted clip art or photos, commercial sources are identified.
Among the more unusual examples of desktop publishing are sophisticated birth announcements, jar labels, bumperstickers, and wearable baseball caps. Examples of more common publishing efforts are given, including catalogs, cookbooks, business cards, and mailing labels. Approximately 100 different designs are presented.
This book is a rich source of design ideas for the intended reader. A professional computer graphics artist who examined this book concurs with my judgment.
