This 15-page paper provides a well-documented overview of the varieties, limitations, and file management capabilities of current literature review systems. It is an excellent paper.
Literature review “is concerned with the detailed analysis, interpretation, and organization of thoughts derived from . . . bibliographic sources.” The problems and organization of such a task are discussed, as are the types of programs available. Examples of text classification, keyword, frequency, spreadsheet display, comparison, relationships, and quasistatistical summary are included. A summary of the limitations and advantages of computer-assisted reviews is included. While names and addresses of vendors are not supplied, the paper otherwise appears to be comprehensive.
