Minimization methods for non-differentiable functions
Shor N., Kiwiel K., Ruszcay&ngrave;ski A., Springer-Verlag New York, Inc., New York, NY, 1985. Type: Book (9789780387127637)
Date Reviewed: Dec 1 1985

This book presents the theory relating to minimization using generalized gradients for nondifferentiable functions. Many standard operations-research problems are considered, and the value of space-dilation is emphasized. This small book is very densely packed with information concerning the theory, as well as the complexity and relative merits of the various algorithms. It is an excellent book for the researcher, but it makes no concession to those who like to be motivated by geometric intuition. The 100-plus references are all in English, though mostly of Russian origin. The translators are to be commended for producing a text which reads exactly as if the source language had been English.
