Shaw I., Kluwer Academic Publishers, Norwell, MA, 1998. 192 pp. Type: Book (9780792382492)
Date Reviewed: May 1 1999

The purpose of this book is to serve as an introductory textbook onintelligent control systems, such as fuzzy logic and neurofuzzy systems. While exercises are not included in the text, they are available fromthe author via email. The first chapters provide the necessarymathematical prerequisites on set theory and fuzzy logic. The book thenhas several chapters that deal with fuzzy modeling and its applicationto industrial control problems. The later chapters extend these conceptsto neural nets and learning as related to such control problems. Thebook is self-contained and would serve as a good starting point forthose interested in applying these adaptive methods to controlengineering.
