This text appears to be based on a Ph.D thesis in which the author studied four Australian libraries. In each case, some new feature was being introduced to the library, and the research proceeded by means of interviews with staff and administration.
Two of the innovations were successful and two were failures. As a result of the study, the author enunciates various strategies that may result in uniformly favorable outcomes. One of the studies involved the introduction of a large, computer-based remote access information system, but no details are given.
The book will be of little interest to computer scientists but may be of value to librarians. It is interestingly written and contains an extensive bibliography and good indexes.
