The publisher says this text is designed for college students and business managers. It is also useful on the junior college, trade school, and possibly high school levels.
Each chapter of this text ends with a list of key words and a self-test. The authors assume that the student has no previous PC experience and therefore rightly begin with basic concepts such as major components and keyboard layout. The student is then taken through DOS, WordPerfect, LOTUS, and dBASE IV. This material is as good a menu of introductory topics as any. The book includes an adequate index, glossary, and exercise section.
The text is accompanied by a learning floppy disk and should be effective for both classroom use and independent study. Its somewhat daunting length should not deter the student, since the material is sharply divided into sections that discuss different subjects. The language is easy to understand without talking down to the reader. In short, this book is a good PC start-up text.
