This book is comprised of papers from the Second European Conference on Cognitive Engineering, held in Gmunden, Austria. Cognitive ergonomics is a hybrid field combining concepts from both computer science and psychology.
This field is an emerging and interesting research area. The proceedings are representative of the issues and methods. The editors examine Models and Methodology, Cognitive Aspects, Software Environments, Novices and Learning, Interfaces in the Field, and Organizations and Systems. Many of the papers describe ongoing research and are closer to working papers documenting accomplishments to date.
Students of cognitive ergonomics and related fields will find the contributions rich in references with very complete bibliographies. Though this reading is classified as part of computer science, it has merit in the disciplines of psychology, decision science, and philosophy.
