Cover Quote: November 2000

Computing Reviews has been established by the Association for Computing Machinery at a time when a great ferment has arisen within the Association for more activity on the part of ACM in furthering the development of computers, computation, data processing, and all their various ramifications—as a scientific discipline, as an art, as a tool for making over modern industrial society.

...It is hoped that in the future there will arrive a time when it will be possible for every journal article pertinent to computer theory and usage to be reviewed critically by specialists in the field of the article.

...It is to be hoped that as the reviewing staff grows and a growing range of periodicals can be tapped, those areas of computer usage... may be further expanded. Meanwhile, readers are urged to participate in this expansion by volunteering likely candidate articles and books for review, by suggesting specific areas, and by volunteering as reviewers.
