Industry 4.0 & Internet of Things in supply chain
Lopez H., Cisneros M.  CLIHC 2017 (Proceedings of the 8th Latin American Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, Antigua, Guatemala, Nov 8-10, 2017)1-4.2017.Type:Proceedings
Date Reviewed: Apr 23 2018

This paper intends to report the first results of ongoing research on the topic of the Internet of Things (IoT) in supply in the context of Industry 4.0.

The terms “Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)” and “Industry 4.0” are used interchangeably. Although both concepts have relied on similar technologies, their origins and meanings are diverse. While the IIoT is a concept that uses the paradigm or the technology of the IoT in the manufacturing process, machine maintenance, supply chain, and so on, Industry 4.0 is a concept launched by the German government, which literally means the fourth Industrial Revolution supported by modern technology like information and communication technology (ICT).

The authors have judiciously made this difference in the title of the paper, and thoroughly explain what Industry 4.0 is.

In this paper, the authors present the usage of IoT in a supply chain. Diverse terms like “Internet connectivity” are explained, and a relevant protocol for enabling communication between “things” in a supply chain is briefly presented. Furthermore, the description of the target results is quite messy.

Personally, I do not understand the objectives of this paper nor its contribution to the theme or topic it intends to handle.

The paper is not clearly written; it seems like the authors used a translator to translate parts of it.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this paper.
