How to build a LAMP server
Parker S., CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 2015. 154 pp. Type: Book (978-1-499754-58-2)
Date Reviewed: Dec 14 2015

A quick guideline about setting up a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) web server is provided in this book. The demand for web servers is growing exponentially, and hosting companies nowadays typically offer an option for clients to build, by themselves, a web server from scratch where LAMP is the best solution.

The book covers all of the necessary tasks and explains all of the important aspects of each part of the stack along the way. The author organizes the book by presenting the sequential steps of installing LAMP. Chapter 1 discusses installing a Linux operating system, and chapter 2 teaches readers how to configure Linux after it is installed. Chapter 3 is about installing Apache web server, and chapter 4 shows configuration tips for Apache. Chapters 5 and 6 present installations of PHP and MySQL, respectively. Besides MySQL, phpMyAdmin is a popular web-based interface to visualize MySQL, and chapter 7 is about phpMyAdmin installation.

Chapters 8 to 11 are short teachings on database design, database programming, and PHP programming. Although these teachings are not comprehensive, they serve as a quick guideline to run a newly installed LAMP web server.

This book is unique in that it presents screen shots of all of the individual installation steps. Readers will not operate incorrectly when installing a LAMP web server. Overall, this book is a great starting point for learning web administration.
