The Rails 4 way (3rd ed.)
Fernandez O., Faustino K., Addison-Wesley Professional, Upper Saddle River, NJ, 2014. 880 pp. Type: Book (978-0-321944-27-6)
Date Reviewed: May 21 2015

Ruby on Rails, or simply Rails, is an open-source web application framework written in Ruby. This framework has gained popularity in the last few years, especially after Apple bundled it with Mac OS. This book is a classic reference work like the Perl reference books from O’Reilly. Detailed documentation is provided, including application programming interface (API) information. The book is not intended to be read from beginning to end, or even fully, but it will catapult you to work on a real-world Rails project. The book can be considered an apt tool for such instances. A great deal of sample code is provided, and developers as well as managers working on Rails projects will find the book very useful.

The book contains framework semantics and an emphasis on security aspects. Topics such as secure sockets layer (SSL), SQL injection attacks, and cross-site scripting are covered. Performance topics are addressed, and appendices with extensive documentation are provided. This book has broad and deep explanations of the Rails framework. Due to this depth, both students and professionals will find it extremely useful. Sample code and execution snippets at the command shell are provided. If you need a reference book on Rails, this is one of the best available on the market right now.
