This slim volume would work well as the handout for an introductory half-day seminar on using a Mac and associated Apple software products, such as iCal, iPhoto, and the like. A new user of the OS X operating system would get off to a fast start with each software package, although not an in-depth start by any means.
The rest of us will have little use for this 110-page, 14-chapter collection of screen shots, whitespace, and brief text instructions. In a glaring omission, one cannot even find a way to verify that the computer being used is actually running Mavericks, nor which versions of OS X are the Mavericks versions.
There is a crowded field for this type of introduction to using a Mac, and those not attending an introductory hands-on seminar would be better served by any of the competition, such as [1], and by the keyboard.
