The editors compiled this diverse collection of papers in honor of John Mylopoulos, an important contributor to many computer science fields. In recognition Mylopoulos’ pioneering contributions to the conceptual modeling field, all 25 papers explore conceptual modeling as an important tool.
The papers are divided into six sections: “Foundations,” “Information Systems,” “Information Integration,” “Web and Services,” “Software and Requirements Engineering,” and “Implementations.” But these are only very general groupings; the papers discuss a wide variety of applications.
While all of the contributions are of a high quality, “On Non-Functional Requirements in Software Engineering” is an excellent and readable overview of the field. The first paper in the collection, “John Mylopoulos: Sewing [sic] Seeds of Conceptual Modelling,” is also engaging; it relates the history of conceptual modeling and Mylopoulos’ contribution to its development.
The editors correctly state in the preface that these papers “are of lasting significance and could also be used to support a course on conceptual modeling.”
