Digital visions, computers and arts
Goodman C., H. N. Abrams, Inc., New York, NY, 1987. Type: Book (9789780810923614)
Date Reviewed: Nov 1 1989

This book was published in conjunction with a 1987 “Computers and Art” exhibition at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York. It contains numerous color prints and a set of endnotes for further reading.

The chapter titles best describe the contents:

  • I:.BC I:.BC I. Art in the Computer Age;

  • II:.BCI. Art and Technology: The Uneasy Liaison;

  • III. Two-Dimensional Computer Imaging;

  • IV. The Moving Image: Computer-Animated Film, Special Effects, Video, and Performance.

The book is artistic in emphasis and has little to say about “how to” technical mechanics. Its best aspect is the art history it contains. Its limitation is the lack of scientific detail. The book is a good overview of this significant area.
