Computing in the home: shifts in the time allocation patterns of households
Vitalari N., Venkatesh A., Gronhaug K. Communications of the ACM28 (5):512-522,1985.Type:Article
Date Reviewed: Oct 1 1985

After sampling 282 members of active computer clubs in Orange County, California, the authors conclude that a personal computer in the home takes up a portion of one’s time that would otherwise be spent doing something else. This astonishing revelation is hidden under a thick overlay of sociological jargon and statistical analysis of questionable value. The article concludes--as is usual in such cases--with a call for further research of the same ilk.
