Computing Reviews announces the annual Best of Computing

New York, NY Tuesday, April 1, 2014 - Computing Reviews (CR), an ACM/ThinkLoud publication, is proud to present the annual Best of Computing, which features the Best Reviews and Notable Books & Articles. Working with the insight and recommendations of the CR community, Best of Computing offers a great must-read list to anyone active in computer science.

Notable Books & Articles brings together the most interesting and influential items published last year. Based on nominations from our reviewers, category editors, editors in chief of journals, and others in the computing community, CR has compiled a current overview of the computing field with 94 books, articles, conference proceedings, and whole journal issues. This list is also available as a PDF download. (

The Best Reviews highlight the excellent contributions of our reviewers to the publication. Using editor and reader recommendations as well as rankings, 22 nominees were selected by our committee of editors. The Best Review was written by Maxine Cohen and discusses the book “Recoding Gender.” According to one of the selection committee members, Cohen provides "an interesting point of view on this important, and often overlooked, insight into the social history of computing."

We invite you to take a look at the Best of Computing. All reviews featured in this compilation are available to the public, including reviews of items on the Notable Books & Articles list.
