Shefali Trushit Naik is an academic and researcher with extensive experience in the field of computer science (CS) education and research. Her career spans over 24 years. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for teaching and has taught a diverse range of subjects at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has taught courses on computer system architecture, system analysis and design, database management system, and software project management, among others. She received her PhD in CS from Sardar Patel University, Gujarat, India, in 2018.
In her current role as an assistant professor at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Ahmedabad University, she is deeply involved in teaching undergraduate students, mentoring projects, and contributing to various academic and administrative committees. Her research area is not limited to database systems; she is also interested in education, especially teaching-learning pedagogies. These research interests are reflected in her publications, which include papers presented at national and international conferences and articles published in books and journals.
Her book Concepts of database management systems was written for undergraduate students of computer applications and CS. It describes the concepts in an easy-to-understand language, along with many examples, and explains emerging trends in databases.
Under Shefali’s mentorship, students have reached national levels in programming competitions and received scholarships for research and PhD pursuits. In 2020, Ahmedabad University recognized her service and dedication at their 11th Foundation Day. In 2021, at the 12th Foundation Day, her team received a Chairman’s Award for their work on Ahmedabad’s Environment and Climate Change Foundation Programme Studio.
Shefali possesses a profound passion for wildlife and bird observation. Her articles on avian topics have been featured in newspapers such as The Indian Express and NavGujarat Samay. Her professional affiliations include Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and ACM India Chapter of Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (iSIGCSE) memberships. She has also served as a committee member for various conferences.
Shefali achieved “Nritya Visharad” in Bharat Natyam, the classical Indian dance form.
