| Throughout a long, eclectic career in academia, industry, and business, Yousri El Fattah has contributed many research and development projects in multidisciplinary areas in information and computer sciences. His body of work reflects his varied educational background in computer science and aeronautical engineering, combined with industrial experiences in aerospace, telecommunication, and industrial automation. In 2009, Yousri launched Causal Computing, a start-up dot-com business in Santa Monica, CA. The business is engaged in app development to aid businesses and individuals make complex decisions in uncertain situations. The development is driven by innovative data sciences and statistical computing technologies, producing software to run on the web and portable devices. Causal Computing also provides custom programming and information technology R&D outsourcing services for corporate customers. In 2010-2011, Causal Computing was a vendor for a major aerospace/defense business under a government contract, and delivered technology for Space C2 course-of-action (COA) planning. Yousri has worked as an engineer at ALCATEL in France; a member of technical staff (MTS) at Rockwell Scientific; and a senior scientist in information sciences at Teledyne Scientific. He held posts as a visiting researcher and as a post-doc at academic institutions in France, Belgium, Norway, and Austria in Europe and at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in the US. He has been a professor at University Mohamed V in Morocco and an adjunct professor at UCI University Extension, National University, and California State University in the US. Yousri has two PhDs: one in Information & Computer Sciences from the University of California, Irvine (1993) and the other in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Cairo, Egypt (1972). He is a board-certified professional engineer in control systems engineering in the state of California and has been licensed since 1985. Yousri is an author of a book on learning systems, as well as numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals, conference proceedings, and encyclopedias. He is known for his work on modeling and reasoning with deterministic and probabilistic networks in general, and on computing frameworks for course-of-action planning with causal and Bayesian networks in particular. He has also contributed to approaches in the mathematical modeling of dynamical and stochastic systems motivated by applications in biology and economy. Part of his work in the control systems area—on learning automata, adaptive control, and recursive algorithms—has been ported to real-life applications in congestion control of telephone switching and process control of phosphate drying. Yousri has reviewed for Zentralblatt für Mathematik, an international reviewing service that covers the entire field of mathematics. He had been listed in Who’s Who in Engineering, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World. He has been a reviewer for Computing Reviews since 2009 and has written 20 reviews. |
