| Vito Pirrelli, computational linguist and cognitive scientist, received his PhD from the University of Salford (UK) in 1993. He works as a Research Director at the Institute for Computational Linguistics of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa. He serves as the co-editor in chief of the international linguistic journal Lingue e Linguaggio (published by il Mulino) and he is currently the research group leader for bio-computational models of language and cognition, and language technologies for cultural heritage in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of CNR. He is the head of the Communication Physiology Lab, and serves on the editorial boards of the Mental Lexicon, Italian Journal of Linguistics, Lingue e Linguaggio and Linguistica Computazionale. From 2011 to 2015, he has chaired the European Science Foundation Research Networking Programme "NetWordS: the European Network on Word Structure.” His main research interests include machine language learning, psycho-computational models of word acquisition and processing, disorders of verbal communication, models of memory and serial cognition, information extraction, and theoretical and applied linguistics. He has published widely in numerous journals, including Topics in Cognitive Sciences, Frontiers of Neurorobotics, Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Artificial Intelligence, Computers and Humanities, Natural Language Engineering, Italian Journal of Linguistics, and Lingue e Linguaggio. He is (co)author of over 10 books and edited volumes. He's been a reviewer for Computing Reviews since 2003. |
