Cover Quote: March 2017

In my study of youth participation in social media I wanted to understand what everyday teen life looked like once technology was commonplace .... I was a part of the first cohort of youth to have access to the internet as a teenager. At the same time, my experiences online were very much shaped by the types of people who were part of early internet culture—self identified geeks, freaks, and queers. Given that I was all three, I fit right in. And yet, when I returned to examine teen practices in my early twenties, it was quickly apparent that the geeky internet that I knew and loved was not the same one environment that the majority of youth were experiencing.
