Computation is everywhere. One of the things I have seen over my career is a real change in the way that computer scientists are viewed by scientists. Once upon a time--and this is not that long ago--people in the sciences thought of computer people as just being programmers, and really they thought they could do everything themselves. Now I believe they''ve really come to realize that to get the right kind of performance and system requires a deep expertise in computer science. What you see in computer science more and more is a lot of interdisciplinary work where computer scientists work closely with specialists in other areas--in biology, in physics, in chemistry--to help build the systems that are of interest in those areas.
