Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Andre Maximo is a Brazilian computer scientist who works mainly on the design and implementation of massive parallel processing algorithms. He graduated from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 2005, and earned his MS and PhD degrees in computer systems engineering at the Institute Alberto Luiz Coimbra of Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (COPPE) at the same university (UFRJ) in 2006 and 2010. From 2001 to 2007, he worked for several companies developing software solutions. In 2009, while he was working on his PhD, he worked in the Graphics and Visual Informatics Laboratory (GVIL) at the University of Maryland (UMD) as a visiting student, holding a scholar faculty membership. From 2010 to 2012, he joined the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) as a postdoctoral fellow, studying geometry and image processing. In 2012, he was also a computer science professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) where he lectured on algorithms and data structures. From 2012 to 2014, he worked at the General Electric Global Research Center in Rio de Janeiro (GE GRC Rio) as a lead scientist, working in research and development. From 2014 to 2016, he has been a principal data scientist at EMC Brazil Research and Development Center (EMC BRDC), also in Rio de Janeiro, working with machine learning in storage- and cluster-based environments.
