Cognitive (Internet of) Things :collaboration to optimize action

Cognitive (Internet of) Things brings us a comprehensive view of the field, despite its small size (less than 180 pages). The book is well organized, with topics ranging from the basics of the subject to cognitive devices that function as human assistants. Finally, the book discusses how to construct cognitive things.

Throughout the book, stories, examples, and references illustrate the text and bring the subject to the readers’ level, making them feel like part of the process. Although some of the issues are presented superficially, the information is certainly a good start and other resources can be consulted for more details.

I recommend this book to people who, like me, are curious about advances in computing, artificial intelligence, and cognitive sciences, and who are interested in how today’s Internet can enable technologies that make ordinary people’s lives easier, safer, and better. For those who seek to delve into the subject more deeply, this work is not recommended because the author has chosen to discuss, in a very light way, the “things” that can bring the future (like the one we once saw in The Jetsons) to the present.
