Mobile cloud computing (MCC) is the combination of mobile computing and cloud computing. Mobile devices have low battery life and limited resources. MCC introduces offloading, where data storage and computation are performed in the cloud instead of on a mobile device. In this way, the resources are much greater and the battery life of the device is prolonged.

The book contains 14 chapters that provide comprehensive coverage of all aspects of MCC. Each chapter contains a very good introduction to the topic, followed by a detailed description, using figures, tables, and often mathematical formulas. At the end of each chapter, there are useful questions and numerous references. The first chapter shows the types of mobile devices, network generation applications, and challenges. The next chapter presents cloud computing architecture and applications. Chapter 3 presents an overview of the architecture and issues of the MCC. The rest of the chapters discuss various aspects of MCC:

• Offloading techniques and challenges;
• Green MCC, where the stress is on reducing the energy consumed by the MCC architecture;
• Resource allocation, a highly technical chapter about organizing resources in a cloud;
• Sensor MCC, discussing the problems of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which contain sensors of temperature, movement, pressure, noise, and so on;
• Mobile social cloud computing, which considers the technical problems of social networks;
• Privacy and security in MCC, an interesting topic, where technical solutions are shown;
• Trust in MCC, which shows how much the user trusts a network and how the trust is maintained across the network elements;
• Vehicular MCC, an interesting chapter related to the functionality of mobile devices in a car;
• Business aspects of MCC (pricing and offering); and
• Applications and future research in MCC.

Overall, this is a very good book on some important emergent technologies. The book is addressed to network architects and designers.
