A few years ago, you could work on software all your life and never hear the word “business.” Now, it is a part of nearly every method. In the continuing quest for IBM to have an answer for everything, these engineers have applied unified modeling language (UML) 2.0, specifically the activity diagrams, to create a model that reveals operational requirements. These results are fed into code for business process execution language for Web services (BPEL4WS). Although their solution may have been overkill for such small examples, the authors show us, step-by-step, how to apply models for implementing business processes.
