End-user composition of interactive applications through actionable UI components

This research is related to the development of end-user-designed applications using the mashup platform called EFESTO. This type of computer programming puts the control of developing personalized mobile apps into the hands of end users. While most mobile apps try to cater to the mass market, this development environment will allow tech-savvy end users the opportunity to create applications that suit their specific needs.

In order to understand their research, the authors describe the system by providing an explanation of how the EFESTO platform works through a comprehensive real-world example. The example details how a layperson could use the system to develop personalized applications. The purpose is to determine if non-programming end users can develop applications by dragging and dropping user interface (UI) components with related data links into a development environment.

The conclusions suggest that non-programming end users can adequately manipulate UI components to create a simplistic mobile app. Finally, this research concludes that application development can be redefined to shape software development that supports end users with context-specific requirements. As a lecturer in mobile apps development, I believe this type of platform will not be a game changer; however, it does offer a creative option to create customized mobile apps for any tech-savvy individual. I would highly recommend this paper to application developers and interface designers within the software industry.
