Are you moving large-scale workloads that cannot scale well to Microsoft Azure? Then you might want to take a look at this book, which discusses lessons learned from large-scale migration to the public cloud (Azure).

There are challenges around migrating workloads, especially when working on a sophisticated and dynamic platform. According to the author, “leaders need to ask the right questions and leverage the power of monitoring and alerting to create an accurate picture of the environment, make better decisions, and provide clear direction.”

This book describes the story of migrating MSN to the public cloud and documents that journey, including an assessment of why the approaches succeeded along with the risks faced by moving to the public cloud. In between, the author discusses the step-by-step management technique process that started well, but was tension filled in the last months.

The last few chapters review the lessons learned after the launch and the key points to consider in building cloud services. A checklist for building resilient cloud services is also included; each checklist item is explained in detail. Finally, the last chapters discuss pre-release and deployment, monitoring and alerting, and incident management.
