A reflection on agile requirements engineering: solutions brought and challenges posed
Inayat I., Moraes L., Daneva M., Salim S.  XP 2015 (Proceedings of the XP2015 Scientific Workshops, Helsinki, Finland, May 25-29, 2015)1-7.2015.Type:Proceedings
Date Reviewed: Jul 22 2015

This most appropriately titled paper is a follow-up to the authors’ systematic literature review [1] of requirements engineering (RE) in the context of agile software development. Included are 54 additional references. The authors reflect on: how agile RE practices differ from more traditional approaches; how agile RE resolves some issues while presenting new challenges; and how research and practice may be affected by agile RE. Four tables provide key insights to agile RE.

After an introductory section, there are sections on traditional versus agile RE, practices adopted for agile RE, agile RE’s role in addressing traditional challenges, and the new challenges associated with agile RE. The subsection of the second section that inspects agile RE is quite thorough and insightful. The final section provides three implications of agile RE for practitioners and researchers.

The paper is well organized and well presented. It should be of much interest to any practitioner or researcher of RE, whether associated with more traditional software development or with agile development.
