Development of parallel explicit finite element sheet forming simulation system based on GPU architecture
Cai Y., Li G., Wang H., Zheng G., Lin S. Advances in Engineering Software45 (1):370-379,2012.Type:Article
Date Reviewed: Nov 19 2012

A new parallel method is proposed by the authors to improve the time response for simulating sheet-forming in the automotive manufacturing process. The method is based on a known explicit nonlinear finite element method. The novelty lies in its adaptation to and implementation in graphics processing units (GPUs). A considerable reduction in the time response of the GPU-based simulation is obtained, versus the case of using a central processing unit (CPU)-based simulation.

The detailed description of the solving method and the numerical experiments make this a good reference for researchers involved in parallel computing in numerics, as well for software engineers interested in improving current simulation tools.
