Wingyan Chung is an associate professor in the School of Business Administration at Stetson University, where he develops and directs the Center for Business Intelligence and Analytics. He received his PhD in management information systems from The University of Arizona, with a minor in computer science, and an MS and BBA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Chung’s scholarly interests and expertise include information systems, business intelligence, data and text mining, Web analytics, knowledge management, social media analytics, security informatics, information visualization, and human-computer interaction. He has received multiple honors and awards, such as NSF research grants; a Research Fellow Award and a Research Excellence Award from UNC Fayetteville State University; an Outstanding Performance Award and Best Research Paper Award from The University of Texas at El Paso; Presidential Research Grants from Santa Clara University; and a Young Investigators Initiative Award from DARPA. He has published over 70 refereed articles in academic journals and conferences such as Communications of the ACM (CACM), IEEE Computer, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, and Decision Support Systems, among others.

Chung is ranked among the top 20 academic authors globally in business intelligence and analytics, according to an article published in MIS Quarterly in December 2012. The editor of CACM selected his paper, “Web searching in a multilingual world,” to be the main cover story of CACM in May 2008. Two of his publications are among the top 25 most downloaded papers in the journals Decision Support Systems and International Journal of Human-Computer Studies. Google Scholar lists over 1,300 citations to his published works. His research has generated over $720,000 of external grants from funding agencies. He was co-principal investigator (co-PI) of a project titled “Living in the KnowlEdge Society (LIKES)” and is co-PI of another project titled “Computing in Context,” both funded by the National Science Foundation. Prior to joining Stetson, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Arizona’s National Center for Border Security and Immigration.

He has taught and researched at the University of Arizona, Santa Clara University, The University of Texas at El Paso, and UNC Fayetteville State University. The courses he taught include database management, business intelligence, data analytics, management information systems, security informatics, and object-oriented programming, among others. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Information Privacy and Security and an editor of ACM Computing Reviews (information systems area), and serves as an expert reviewer for major information systems (IS) journals and conferences, including the Journal of Management Information Systems, ACM Transactions on Information Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, and the International Conference on Information Systems, among others. During his leisure time, he enjoys reading, running, swimming, playing soccer, and listening to music.
